PISTA SA NAYON 2009

Fellow Triskelions,

The TGFS of Northwest Region proudly represents the International and USA National Council to the "PISTA SA NAYON 2009 PARADE" on Sunday, July 26, 2009.

"PISTA SA NAYON" is held at Seward Park, one of the City of Seattle's pristine parks along Lake Washington. The City of Seattle describes the park as "300 acres of beautiful forest land - home to eagles' nests, old growth forest, a 2.4 mile bike and walking path, an amphitheater, a native plant garden, an art studio, miles of hiking trails, and more." Against this backdrop, and amongst friends and relatives, all who come to Pista vouch for a magical experience.

The Stages of Triskelion Alumni

By: Bro. Mitchell L. Flores, MDG

In my recent visit in Metro Manila, I had a chance to have a great conversation with Brod Ralph Barin, MDG of UP Diliman, batch 74'. I stayed at his house during that visit and we had an exciting exchange of ideas together with Brod Manny Gorospe, MDG. We covered almost everything about the fraternity, from the negative to the positive, but what struck me the most was when Brod Ralph shared his ideas about the stages of a Triskelion Alumnus.

Many times over, I've heard lots of complaints against our Triskelion Alumni. Complaints like: "Where were they during the dark days?" , or "Bakit ngayon lang kayo sumipot?" , or "Saan kayo nung kailangan namin kayo?", or "Wala na silang pakialam ngayon sa Frat" , and many more similar complaints. I was once thinking the same way, asking too many questions on the whereabouts of the Alumni. However, I felt so relieved when I heard the response of Brod Ralph Barin regarding these issues. He said that most Alumni during the 70's and 80's were still in a stage of building-up their respective careers, and time was truly a luxury for them. Like
himself he said, when he graduated from college, nurtured with the aim to Excel, he immediately looked for a job, and during those days as a young alumnus, he doesn't have the control of his time but his boss. He can't be absent from work and whenever requested to make overtime, he can't refuse in order to please his employer. The hurdle doesn't end there, because when he got married, the more that he needed to work harder for the sake of his family. Then kids came and in a period where he had to make plans for their future, trying to create a blueprint out of it. And after those long years of personal struggles, he said that he's now at a point of being stable, financially and psychologically. And it's only now that he has control of his time; that's why he is now coming back for the Fraternity.

On the other hand, we are all aware that there were also many Triskelion Alumni who sacrificed their careers for the sake of the Fraternity. I have to mention a few, like Brod Hernando Guevarra who made the ultimate sacrifice; Brod Boying Sudla, who spent his young years in prison, convicted of crime he didn't commit, but never pointed his fingers to the concerned brothers; Brod Dodong Encanto, Brod Manny Gorospe, including Brod Boy Limbago and Brod Mike Molino, are some of the Triskelion Alumni whom we can consider to have sacrificed their chances to build-up their careers for the sake of the Fraternity. There are many more brothers like them, and for that alone, we are obliged to show them our appreciations.

But we have to be equally thankful for the Triskelion Brothers who have chosen to spend time in building-up their careers, because if they did otherwise, we won't have Brothers now like: Sen. Ralph Recto, Cong. Raffy Nantes, Sultan Jerry Laut, Mayor Jim Salliman, Mayor Bong Teves, Atty. Monching Ocampo, Engr. Ralph Barin, Engr. Cesar Mercado, Brod Dod Peralta, our Four Founding Fathers, the members of the Triskelion Chamber of Commerce, and many many more.

Yes, we have to be thankful in spite of their long absence because they are now coming back; stronger, rejuvenated, and fully evolved.

Therefore we can consider at least three stages of the Triskelion

Alumni:

1) The Commencement Stage;
2) The Building-up Stage; and
3) The Stability Stage.

The Commencement Stage - is where a newly graduated Alumnus just had the first job and receiving a minimum wage but doesn't have control of his time. This is the stage where one is still testing the waters and trying to please his superiors by rising-up to every challenge at hand; trying to make an impression and make a name to be respected.

The Building-up Stage – is where an Alumnus is earning fairly but still trying to make a blueprint of his life. The future is still cloudy at this point and this is where one is thinking of having a family. Time is still very luxurious at this stage but can spare some of it for the Fraternity in one time or another. Physical presence and participation in the Fraternity are very slim, and we can't expect a lot of it at this point. This is the time where a Triskelion Alumnus has to exert all efforts to excel in his chosen field of interest and endeavor.

The Stability Stage – is where an Alumnus has completed the Blueprint of his life and already financially and psychologically stable. He can already calculate the outcome and the consequences of his actions. This is the stage where a Triskelion Alumnus is capable of spending an entire day for the fraternity without the danger of compromising his family. This is the stage where a Triskelion Alumnus has to come back for the Fraternity

Brod Joey Quinto Recieves Award in 111th RP Independence in Southbay

Greetings Fellow Triskelions,

Just wanted to share a photo taken during the 111th Philippine Independence Celebration in Southbay where my brother, Triskelion Joey Quinto (DBTI '77) was presented the "Best Jornalist of the Year Award" during the festivities by the Philippine Independence Day Foundation with Mayor Jim Dear with members of the city council and commissioners.

STEP-QC

Dear Fellow Triskelions,

We are the governing body of the Tau Gamma Sigma-Triskelions Grand Sorority in Quezon City and one of our advocacy is to advance the true essence of sisterhood and empower the Filipino women in our society.

The realization of our advocacy would take place after the launching of Support a Triskelion Educational Program in Quezon City (STEP-QC) last March 30, 2009 at Cosmopoint International Institute of Technology (CIIT), Tomas Morato corner Timog Avenue of the said city.

STEP-Q.C. is a scholarship program of the Tau Gamma Sigma-Quezon City Interim Council (TGS-QCIC) that aims to provide discounted tuition fees and/or free computer college/vocational education to our less fortunate but deserving high school and out-of-school sisters, and brothers as well.

CIIT is our partner institution for the said program.

With this regard, we are asking you fellow sisters and brothers to take part in this program as a regular sponsor/benefactor for our first scholar Maria Doliza A. Dayao of Quirino High School Chapter initiated last July 25, 2008 under the leadership of its GLT Maricar.

She is from 83-D CV Francisco St., Amorsolo, U.P. Diliman and resides with her parents Mr. Dominador Dayao and Mrs. Elizabeth Dayao. Their average monthly family income is at P12,000/month.

Our chosen beneficiary was the only student who passed the entrance examinations conducted by the CIIT last April and wants to take information technology course with a tuition fee of P17,895.00 plus US$50 international fee for this semester. The account will be paid in an installment basis.

Information about our scholar's educational backround such as grades and entrance examination score will be available upon request of a sponsor/benefactor.

Any assistance from you fellow sisters and brothers would be highly appreciated. For interested sponsors/benefactor s, please reply in this email with your complete name, address, contact numbers, chapter, batch and your pledge amount or you can also call or text at 0910-6867714. Thank you very much!

Long live Triskelions,

SIS. RJHAY E. LAUREA

KIDS Fun Run

May 31 was a red-letter day for me and to most Triskelions who answered the call of Brod Diether Ocampo for support. First, it marked the first time I will be reuniting with my fraternity brods/sis from the University of Santo Tomas since I was gone into hibernating. Oh, that was about 30 years ago… Second, the Fun Run was for a noble cause of feeding and educating street children under brod Diether Ocampo’s K.I.D.S. Foundation.

As May 31 approaches, I felt the adrenaline rush reaching higher levels. However, the days before the event, the weather seemed not so cooperative. Rain showers filled most of the days. I was hoping that the event organizers would offer eggs to Sta Clara to erase the rains even just to finish the race. By the way, is there any truth to this? In fact, at about 3:30am I texted Ms Roxanne of the KIDS Foundation to ask if the event will go on as scheduled. She replied in less than a minute to my query that rain or shine the race will go on.

I can just imagine that with the heavy downpour, the Fun Run might be aptly dubbed as KIDS Fun Swim or even KIDS Flood Run or whatever. Hehehe…. However, the rains did not deter me from getting up from my bed and trekking to the shower. At the shower, with eyes and mind still half-awake, I kept asking myself what will happen if the rains continue to flood the streets.

On the way to UP, there were still rains, and I prayed that the rain will stop because everybody took time out (especially from deep slumber on a Sunday) for a worthy cause. At the back of Palma Hall parking lot, I saw two brods named Leo and Gary. I was with my biological brod, who incidentally is a fellow triskelion, and told him I’m home again. Yes, I’m home with my fellow Triskelions. And what a fitting comeback it was because there I was at our mother chapter as if renewing my vows.

The race started as scheduled. Too bad, there were many brods from different chapters who were late and weren’t able to participate. I hope next time there will be a Fun Run especially for brods who are late risers, because according to brod John B, most brods have their own personal jet lag or their alarm clocks always fail them. Bwahahaha….

At the car on our way home, though dead tired and hungry, I am still in high spirits. I know I am back. Yes I am and I am a proud triskelion. Kudos to brod Diether for an act worth emulating. You made all Trsikelions proud!
