On its 5th in the row, the annual Paskong Pinoy event (a free holiday concert) paved the way for another new beginning of hope and celebration for the Filipino American community in the area. Held last December 5, 2009 at Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center, Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., the joyous event was attended by approximately 200 guests and was actively participated by Fil-Am community organizations and skillful performers and participants, all pride of the Greater Metro DC Area.
Sponsored by the Embassy of the Philippines, The Philippine American Foundation for Charities, Inc. (PAFC) and The Filipino Organization of Catholic University Students (FOCUS), together with Tau Gamma Phi , Tau Gamma Sigma of Mid-Atlantic Region (TMAR) and Alpha Phi Omega District of Columbia Alumni Association (APODCAA), the event marked another huge success in the history of traditional Filipino Christmas celebration around the world. Making this year’s theme adapt an ideally suited answer to the condition of our motherland, it was called “Paskong Pinoy: Pasko ng Pag-Asa” (A Christmas Concert of Hope).
Performers from around Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC offered their pieces of skills and talents through a variety of sweet serenading Christmas carols. The special performances were as passionate as ever that they drew significant lines of hope and answer to homesickness - the real essence of the celebration. Some of these performers who showcased talents were Northern Virginia Rondalla, St. Coumba Children’s Choir, Rodriguez Brothers, Our Lady of Lourdes Quartet, All Saints Fil-Am Ministry Choir, Filipino Ministry Choir of St. Columba, Young Adults Choir of St. Columba, Philippine American Medical Mission of Metropollitan Washington, DC Mission of Mercy Choral Group, Fil-Am Ministry of St. Michael the Arcanghel of Silver Spring Choir, Ms. Margarita Gomez Giannelli and Fil-Am Christian Church Anklung Ensemble of Fredericksburg, VA.
The program ended with the participation of the audience singing “Ang Pasko ay Sumapit” led all performers singing on stage.
